Indian ticketing platform BookMyShow saw revenue grow by almost 50% in 2024, with profit also up by a double-digit figure.
BookMyShow, owned by Bigtree Entertainment, reported that revenue grew by 43% to Rs 1,396.86 crore ($186.6m) in the year ending March 2024. According to its consolidated financial statement with the Registrar of Companies, cited by Entrackr, revenue is now more than five times greater than the Rs 277 crore recorded in FY22.
Online ticketing grew by 24% to Rs 801.57 crore and accounts for 57% of the company’s total revenue. Ticketing actually makes up slightly less of the company total in 2024 due to the growth of live events, which surged by 91% to Rs 454.27 crore in 2024. Sales of food and beverages and marketing grew by 56% to Rs 140.57 crore.
BookMyShow’s overall expenditure grew slightly less than the rise in revenue. Outgoings were up 40% to Rs 1,319.88 crore in FY24. The biggest segment remained revenue share to cinemas worth Rs 323.03 crore during FY24, accounting for 44% of the online ticket booking revenue.
BookMyShow’s profit grew by 28% to Rs 108.63 crore during FY24, compared to Rs 85.11 crore made in the previous fiscal year. BookMyShow generated profit of Rs 258.65 crore via online ticketing and Rs 84.13 crore through advertisement, marketing, sale of food and beverages. However, the live events vertical generated a loss of Rs 137.99 crore during FY24.
In November, BookMyShow launched ticketing for Coldplay’s India shows that will be staged in early 2025. This includes the band’s biggest ever gig at Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest arena in Ahmedabad.
