Major League Soccer expansion franchise FC Cincinnati has targeted selling 20,000 season tickets for its debut campaign next year.
FC Cincinnati, which currently plays in the United Soccer League, was awarded an MLS franchise back in May.
The club currently plays at the 33,800-seat Nippert Stadium (pictured) but is developing a new 21,000-seat, soccer-specific venue that is due for completion in 2021.
Ahead of its debut MLS campaign at Nippert Stadium, the club has outlined plans to sell 20,000 season tickets and attract close to 30,000 fans in total per home match.
“That would absolutely put us into an upper-tier category in (MLS), and that’s always been the ultimate goal,” Jeff Smith, the team’s vice-president of ticket sales and services, told Cincinnati.com. “We’re thrilled with where we are today, and ultimately 20,000-plus is our season-ticket goal, and 28,000 is going to be our game-to-game goal.”
Cincinnati.com reported that the team has already sold more than 14,000 season tickets for next year. These fans are able to add seats for the 2019 season as part of the club’s seat-improvement process. When corporate sponsorship package tickets, group sales and team-issued tickets are taken into consideration, FC Cincinnati is likely to be close to reaching its overall target.
FC Cincinnati is already averaging crowds of over 25,000 in the USL and Smith has urged prospective fans to sign up to support the team ahead of the stadium move in three years’ time.
“This is an unbelievable opportunity to get in on the front end and help us build this thing from scratch,” he said. “At least give yourself an opportunity to make a decision and be on the forefront of being able to select seats in the new stadium in 2021.”
