Five people have reportedly been arrested outside of Kai Tak Stadium for ticket scalping ahead of a concert from British band Coldplay earlier this week.
According to a report from the Hong Kong Free Press, police arrested three men and two women between the ages of 27 and 51. They were arrested on suspicion of breaching conditions of stay and were detained for further investigation.
Ticket scalping is an offence in Kong Hong and can incur a fine of up to HK$2,000 (£200/€230/$260).
Coldplay are currently in the midst of performing four nights at the newly opened Kai Tak Stadium, with two more concerts set for tomorrow (Friday) night and Saturday.
The dates form part of the band’s long-running Music of the Spheres World Tour which began in 2022.
Seated tickets were officially priced between HK$399 and HK$2,099, while standing tickets cost HK$1,399. The 50,000-capacity stadium was sold out on Tuesday night, when the suspected scalpers were arrested.
Kai Tak Stadium forms part of the wider Kai Tak Sports Park complex, which officially opened last month.
The venue hosted its first major sporting event at the end of March, with three days of Hong Kong Rugby Sevens action.
Hong Kong authorities recently ordered ticketing platform Cityline to reprint tickets after errors dogged the build-up to the Coldplay shows. A number of ticket-holders with passes for the standing areas had complained to Hong Kong’s Consumer Council that their tickets had been misprinted.
