Kai Tak Sports Park’s inaugural international concert run, featuring British rock band Coldplay, attracted 200,000 fans across four nights.
Hosted at the centrepiece Kai Tak Stadium, it was the first time Coldplay have played in Hong Kong for 16 years. Forming part of the band’s long-running Music of the Spheres World Tour, the four nights on April 8, 9, 11 and 12 welcomed Hong Kong residents, as well as international and mainland Chinese guests.
Kai Tak Mall and food concessions at the stadium provided an array of international cuisines for fans to enjoy at the concerts.

“As Hong Kong’s largest integrated sports and entertainment landmark, we are thrilled to welcome back Coldplay in our state-of-the-art facility, underscoring our commitment to bringing world-class sports and entertainment to the city,” commented John Sharkey, chief executive of Kai Tak Sports Park.
“The success of this concert series can be attributed to the collective effort and collaboration of multiple parties, including our audience, to whom we extend our heartfelt thanks. This milestone sets a strong foundation for upcoming events, which we are confident in delivering well, as we continue to advance and help elevate Hong Kong’s reputation as Asia’s event capital.”
Operations for the concert series appeared to run smoothly, with 50,000 fans each night departing the complex within 20 minutes thanks to nearby transport links. Additionally, Coldplay’s commitment to more sustainable touring resonated with the team at Kai Tak Sports Park. The venue’s advanced waste decomposition system has processed up to 600kg per day of food waste, used paper cups and containers into compost since hosting last month’s Hong Kong Sevens.
Kai Tak Sports Park officially opened its doors in early March, welcoming more than 33,000 people to a celebratory event at the Populous-designed Kai Tak Stadium.
