The Colombian singer drew approximately 90,000 fans over two concerts to Estadio Akron in Guadalajara. Around 37,000 travelled from other states to see Shakira perform, ensuring that the city surpassed a hotel occupancy rate of more than 50 per cent.
Before Guadalajara, she played twice at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey to a combined 100,000 fans.
Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour marks the first time she has played in Mexico for seven years with OCESA serving as promoter for shows in the country.
Tonight is due to be the second of a seven-date run in Mexico City as she takes to the 65,000-capacity Estadio GNP Seguros until March 30.
Impact on tourism
According to research from Despegar, flight and hotel searches in Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City saw an average increase of 43 per cent around the concert dates.
Monterrey stood out with a 66 per cent increase in hotel demand while Guadalajara welcomed nearly 19,000 visitors on its first night.
Visitors mainly came from Veracruz, Chihuahua, Mérida, and Cancún.
The four-time Grammy Award-winner has already played in Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Colombia on the tour.
She is also due to visit the Dominican Republic, Chile, Canada, and the United States before returning to Peru for the final shows of the tour on November 15 and 16.
