The Australian Live Music Business Council (ALMBC) has reiterated its commitment to supporting the country’s regional and remote areas, with live music fans in these locations often facing barriers when it comes to accessing performances.
ALMBC said in a post on social media that the regional and remote touring circuits have faced unprecedented challenges in recent years.
“The pandemic dealt a heavy blow to touring in these areas, with lockdowns and rising costs making it nearly impossible for artists and promoters to sustain regular gigs,” the statement read.
“However, these circuits are vital – not just for the music industry, but for the communities they serve. Touring brings live experiences to audiences who may not have easy access to major city events, while also supporting local economies and inspiring new generations of musicians, song-writers and story-tellers.”
In recent times, the council has advocated for support for regional and remote parts of Australia within federal government funding.
Last year, smaller regional and remote venues and festivals received funding thanks to the government’s Revive Live initiative.
“Rebuilding regional touring is about more than entertainment – it’s about connection, culture, and resilience,” added the post.
