Hong Kong football fans were left angry and disappointed after former players of Real Madrid and Barcelona allegedly left a meet and greet event early.

Icons from the two Spanish sides met in an exhibition match at Hong Kong Stadium organised by World Football Legends (WFL), Timewow, and ACO Media.

Fans were able to buy an “Experience Set” ticket for HK$6,880 (£720/$900/€865) for the Legends Assemble event which included the meet and greet session with players before the match.

However, Real Madrid Hong Kong Official Fans Club president June Lee has reported the event to the Consumer Council claiming that members did not get what they paid for.

“They had a meet and greet at the Hong Kong Golf and Tennis Academy, and we had 26 members who bought the HK$6,880 ticket to get inside,” Lee said, as reported by the South China Morning Post.

“I don’t know if they oversold or they let other people inside, but by the time [our members] got inside, [Luis] Figo, [Roberto] Carlos and [Fabio] Cannavaro had already left.”

Organisers said that all fans would have one autograph per legend player and that those attending should bring their own memorabilia to be signed.

Fan club members arrived at 10:15am for the event, which was scheduled to start 45 minutes later, but when they got to the front of the queue at 11:45, most of the Real Madrid players had left.

Legends Assemble Asia took to social media to apologise for the issues and said it was seeking a solution.

“We are aware that this incident has caused public attention and we apologise for the inconvenience and concern caused,” the statement read.

“We will learn valuable lessons from this and will be more cautious in handling relevant events in the future so that similar situations do not happen again.”

Just 7,982 people attended the match at the 40,000-capacity stadium in Causeway Bay.
