Top-price theatre tickets rise by 15% – ticketing survey

The average top-price ticket in theatres in the UK has risen by 15% compared to 2023, according The Stage’s UK Ticketing Survey.

This year the average most expensive ticket outside of London totalled £56.46 (€68/$72), an increase on £49.19 in 2023. 

However, this is still way cheaper than the average top-price ticket across West End theatres in 2024, which stands at £154.56. 

The average cheapest ticket in theatres across the UK was £20.96, which actually represents a 1.5% decrease on 2023 and 15% less than a West End equivalent in 2024.

The Stage’s report surveyed the top and bottom prices of shows running at 74 presenting and producing theatres across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for shows on November 16. Of the theatres surveyed, 25 were dark on this date.

Breaking it down further, the average top-price ticket for musicals was up 25% compared to 2023, totalling £72.98. The average lowest-price ticket actually dipped 6% from last year, coming in at £19.06.

For play, the average top-price ticket was £44.90, near identical to 2023. The average cheapest ticket has soared by 17% to cost £18.86.

Primarily representing theatres outside the West End saw the average top-price ticket total £64.15, and the average lowest-price ticket was down to £22.28. This is an increase of 14% and a decrease of 7%, respectively. 

For primarily producing theatres, there was an 8% rise in the average top-price ticket (£39.03) and a 9% increase in the average bottom-price ticket, which came in at £17.97. 

Across the whole survey, the most expensive ticket was for Only Fools and Horses the Musical at Manchester Opera House, at £106.95.
