Yesterday’s (Sunday’s) ICC Women’s T20 World Cup group stage match between India and Pakistan set a new attendance record for women’s cricket.

The Group A clash at Dubai International Stadium broke the attendance record for any group stage match at a Women’s T20 World Cup, welcoming 15,935 fans.

Currently taking place in the United Arab Emirates, matches are scheduled to take place in Dubai and Sharjah with the final set for October 20. Hosted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the tournament was relocated to the UAE following political unrest in the country.

The previous best attendance for a group stage match was 13,432 during the 2020 edition of the tournament when India faced Australia at Sydney’s ENGIE Stadium.

The biggest crowd to watch a women’s cricket match stands at 86,174, which attended the 2020 T20 World Cup final between India and Australia. The tournament was held prior to the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

India won yesterday’s group A match against Pakistan by six wickets. India will next play Sri Lanka, also at Dubai International Stadium, on Wednesday, while Pakistan will face Australia on October 11.

Australia is the defending ICC Women’s T20 World Cup champion.
