FIFA has advised fans against purchasing tickets to the 2026 World Cup from unofficial sources after listings appeared on resale websites in the US and Mexico.
Individual tickets for the tournament, which is set to be co-hosted by the two countries and Canada, do not go on sale until the end of next year.
However, listings are already appearing on the likes of Vivid Seats, Viagogo, and StubHub. On the latter site, tickets are priced as high as £34,486 for the USA’s opening game at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
“Tickets for the 26 FIFA World Cup will be sold exclusively via FIFA.com/tickets, with sales expected to begin in late 2025. FIFA advises all fans wishing to attend the tournament to only purchase tickets from official sources and to be wary of unofficial ticketing sites claiming to be already selling tickets,” read a FIFA statement, as reported by ESPN.
“Fans wishing to receive information on how to apply for 26 FIFA World Cup tickets can register at FIFA.com/tickets and follow the simple registration instructions.
“FIFA will keep registered fans up to date with the latest news and information on 26 FIFA World Cup tickets.”
In 2018, FIFA filed a criminal complaint against Viagogo for offering fraudulent tickets to its World Cup in Russia.
The governing body claimed that the website had committed a “breach of the law on unfair competition”.
FIFA has not confirmed whether it will take legal action against the resale sites offering unofficial tickets to the upcoming tournament.
