Primavera Sound has cancelled its four Latin American music festivals that were scheduled for later this year.

Primavera Sound – headquartered in Barcelona – said the cancellations were due to “external difficulties” that prevented them from staging the festivals according to their “rigorous quality standards.”

The four events were due to be held in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. The festivals in Buenos Aires and São Paulo were held in both 2022 and 2023 and have attracted hundreds of thousands of music fans. Paraguay’s second Primavera Days was to take place in Asunción, while Montevideo was to welcome the event to Uruguay for the first time. Dates for the four festivals were already scheduled and early bird tickets sold.

Hopeful of Latin American return

Primavera Sound said it hopes to return to Latin America in the future.

Alfonso Lanza, director of Primavera Sound, said: “This is undoubtedly a difficult decision, taken after many months of work and after pursuing numerous paths in order to be able to hold these events with guarantees, especially in the context of the current musical industry situation and its challenges.

“Now that we have exhausted all of the possibilities, we must be prudent and focus all our energy on future plans.

“We want to thank our local partners for their dedication and effort, they have given invaluable support for a project in which we continue to believe for its cultural value and for extending the musical routes in the southern hemisphere at atypical times of the year, something that we consider positive for all the parties involved in the process, from fans to artists.”

Primavera Sound has been held annually in Barcelona since 2001, with 90,000 fans per day attending in 2024. Its Portuguese edition in Porto has been staged since 2012, with events also previously held in Los Angeles, Madrid, Chile and Colombia.
