The University of Kansas’ (KU) athletics department is set to move towards a ‘per-seat donation’ model for season tickets at indoor arena Allen Fieldhouse and David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium from the 2025-26 academic year.

Under the new PSD model, each seat will have a total cost, including the season ticket price and a required donation. The cost will still vary depending on the location of the seat within the venue. The aim of the change is to provide a clear, upfront understanding of ticket pricing.

KU Athletics explained that the total per-seat donation amount will also contribute to a fan’s ‘Williams Education Fund’ priority ranking, which impacts seating and parking selection, post-season ticket priority, and other donor benefits. The Fund supports scholarship offerings for student-athletes at KU.

For the 2024-25 season, a new seating configuration is set to be introduced at Allen Fieldhouse, where the university’s basketball teams play. The capacity is being reduced from 16,300 to 15,300. Season ticket-holders that meet specific criteria will be able to keep their current seats, while others will have to participate in a ‘Select-a-Seat’ process, choosing seats online.

The changes come during a time of major renovations for both venues. Allen Fieldhouse is almost at the end of a $55m (£42m/€50m) construction project – due to be completed by mid-October – which was announced in March last year.

The Kansas Jayhawks American football team will not play at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium this year, as it is currently undergoing a major renovation as part of the wider Gateway District project.
