The Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne has welcomed aboard Smeetz, a provider of ticketing software for leisure and culture attractions.

Attracting roughly one million visitors a year, the Swiss Museum of Transport features a collection of historic vehicles, aircraft, ships and railways. The museum boasts other attractions such as a planetarium, a film theatre and the Swiss Chocolate Adventure.

The museum’s system will be replaced with a unified commerce platform, with all ticketing amalgamated for the museum, planetarium, film theatre and the Swiss Chocolate Adventure attraction. Additionally, packages and memberships will be incorporated into the new system.

Marcel Gstädtner, head of sales at the Swiss Museum of Transport, said: “The objective is to implement a modern, digital and customer-friendly ticketing system at the Museum of Transport. Online as well as stationary ticket sales are an eminently important factor. The complexity of different ticket types and categories, in combination with the different attractions and game times, pose a special challenge.

“We are convinced that in Smeetz we have found an innovative and reliable partner who can fully meet our requirements and thus contribute to meeting the objectives we have set.”

The switch to a new system has been made to enhance sales efforts and promote digitalisation, while streamlining the customer journey. By the end of the year, tickets, packages, merchandising, memberships and other products will be sold online and onsite using a unified commerce platform with Smeetz’s proprietary point-of-sale (POS) system.

“Working with the largest museum in Switzerland is a significant milestone for Smeetz and shows our growing importance in the ticketing/commerce industry,” said Sarina Erni, sales director DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).

“For me personally, this partnership is very special, as the Museum of Transport was already a fascinating place in my childhood and I was able to prepare the project together with the VHS team over a long period of time. Now the implementation is finally coming and I am looking forward to working together.”
