While some attendances have been low for matches at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, resale prices for the sought-after India vs Pakistan match have rocketed.
According to a report from Bloomberg, one ticket-holder resold his 2,500 rupee (£25/€28/$30) ticket for 22,000 rupees (£216/€250/$264) on X, formerly known as Twitter. After a change of plans, the holder decided to sell his ticket and said he was shocked by the demand.
When Pakistan takes to the field at Ahmedabad’s 132,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday, it will be the first time in seven years the country has played on Indian soil.
Pakistan/India relations have been notoriously fraught, with cricket acting as the only exchange between the two neighbouring countries.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come under fire during the tournament for the seemingly low attendances at Cricket World Cup games.
England’s match against New Zealand, the opening game of the tournament, left many fans confused by the largely empty stadium.
According to the Hindustan Times, the BCCI claimed 47,518 fans attended the opening game.
Elsewhere, Pakistan vs Netherlands saw just 9,503 fans attend at the 55,000-capacity Rajv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. New Zealand vs Netherlands at the same ground saw just 10,018 fans attend, leaving 44,982 seats empty.
