Sir Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour has become the first tour to earn $900m (£709m/€828m) in Billboard Boxscore history.
Since Sir Elton’s tour began in September 2018, it topped Billboard’s inaugural monthly Top Tours chart in February 2019, before going on to top the table six more times. It also took the top spot for the year-end rankings in 2020, in addition to top five placements in 2019 and 2022.
Sir Elton also boasted a second place finish in the mid-year 2023 Boxscore chart, which was topped by fellow British artist Harry Styles.
In January, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour became the highest-grossing tour in Boxscore history after overtaking Ed Sheeran’s The Divide Tour. It was also the first tour to gross more than $800m.
There are just two more dates left on the tour, tonight’s (Thursday) and tomorrow night’s performances at Tele2 Arena in Stockholm Sweden, which were postponed from 2021.
According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour has now grossed $910.4m through June 18, meaning it is the first tour to break the $900m threshold. Just behind the tour is Sheeran’s The Divide Tour with $776.4m and U2’s U2 360 Tour, which brought in $736.4m.
The update is led by three shows at Manchester’s AO Arena, which brought in $7.4m and sold 44,200 tickets, and another three shows at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena which sold 38,500 tickets and raked in $6.6m. Sir Elton’s current European leg has earned $89.6m over 41 shows so far, with eight shows left to be reported to Billboard’s Boxscore.
The British singer has sold over 20 million tickets, dating back to reports from 1986.
