Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne in the UK has seen its box office record smashed in just four days thanks to its production of Aladdin.

The pantomime broke the 483-capacity venue’s box office records after its opening night. Tivoli’s previous record was held by Made to Measure’s 2018 production of Cinderella; the production company also produced the Aladdin pantomime for Tivoli Theatre.

Aladdin beat the Cinderella run with still two weeks of performances to go.

Lee Redwood, creative director for Made to Measure Productions, told the Bournemouth Daily Echo: “We are over the moon with the news that we have been able to set another record for pantomime at the Tivoli Theatre.

“We pride ourselves on creating bespoke and innovative productions that hold the traditions of pantomime at their core and this has clearly been a successful venture for Wimborne.”

Redwood added: “We were very lucky during the pandemic to never miss a pantomime season at the Tivoli, and it’s so wonderful to see the theatre back to full houses packed with audiences laughing, smiling and cheering at the most magical time of year.”

The Art Deco cinema/theatre was originally opened in 1936 before being threatened with demolition. The venue fell into disrepair after closing in 1980, before volunteers restored Tivoli to its original glory. Tivoli reopened to the public in 1993. Tickets to watch Aladdin cost just £18 ($22/€20).
