Premier League club Everton has created a face value resale service after the expiration of its controversial association with StubHub.
The new service, developed with ticket partner SecuTix, is only available to season ticket members who can list their seats for any fixture they are unable to attend. Fans are able to manage the process themselves from their online ticketing account.
Season ticket members will receive a pro-rata credit on their ticketing account for each ticket sold via the platform, with tickets then listed for sale on the website at the face value for the given fixture. Everton official members for the 2021-22 season will have priority windows ahead of each fixture to purchase tickets on the platform.
The new platform will give season ticket members the flexibility to remove the ticket from sale if their plans or circumstances change. If a ticket is still unsold on the day of the game, the supporter will receive a reminder via text or email that their ticket is still valid if they wish to attend the fixture.
Everton had been partnered with resale operator StubHub since 2012, although the service was unpopular with many fans.
“The facility has been created to assist Season Ticket Members if they are unable to attend matches, helping to ensure they are not out of pocket and to guarantee no seat is unnecessarily left empty at Goodison Park,” an Everton spokesperson said in a statement.
“The club-created system will replace the third-party resale platform, StubHub, which was utilised by fans and provided by the former official partner between 2012 and 2020.”
In 2019, StubHub responded to backlash from Everton supporters about the inflated ticket prices listed on its site by reminding fans that it is ticket holders setting prices, not the firm itself.
The Everton supporters’ group, the Blue Union, posted a screenshot on Twitter of pairs of tickets being sold for more than £150 (€175/$198).
A spokesperson for StubHub at the time said: “Our partnership with Everton FC enables season ticketholders to resell tickets to games they won’t be able to attend. As a ticketing marketplace, StubHub does not set the price of tickets that appear on our site, the fans do.”
