Organisers of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games said ticket refunds will be given to those unable to attend due to its delayed 2021 date, Kyodo News reports.
The 2020 Olympics, which was initially due to kick off in two weeks and is now scheduled to start July 23, 2021, has already shifted around 4.48 million tickets, in addition to the 970,000 sold for the Paralympics.
The Organising Committee said tickets that have already been purchased will remain valid for the postponed event, with refunds being offered to those who cannot attend the new dates.
The organisers confirmed last month that it had reached an agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to stage a “simplified” Games.
Kyodo News reported yesterday that organisers confirmed they are on track to secure all the venues originally planned for use in competitions this summer.
The 2021 event will follow roughly the same competition schedule as was previously laid out.
The Paralympics is scheduled to take place just over two weeks after the conclusion of the Olympics, with a planned start date of August 24, 2021.
