The Dallas Mavericks NBA basketball team has announced it now accepts Bitcoin as a form of payment for its game tickets and merchandise.
The franchise will become the second team in the league to use Bitcoin, after the Sacramento Kings began accepting the cryptocurrency in 2014.
The Mavericks will use service provider BitPay to process all Bitcoin purchases. BitPay, the largest bitcoin payment processor in the world, offers the Mavericks’ global fans a seamless experience to purchase tickets and merchandise with Bitcoin.
Stephen Pair, chief executive of BitPay, said: “The Dallas Mavericks have been an outspoken advocate for Bitcoin, opening up opportunities for the team as it starts to accept Bitcoin for ticket sales and merchandise.”
Fans can make ticket purchases by calling 214.658.6287 and merchandise purchases at dallasmavs.shop.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban added: “We want our fans who would like to pay with Bitcoin the opportunity to do so. BitPay allows our global fans to seamlessly make purchases with the Mavs.”
The Mavericks will begin their 2019-20 season at home against the Washington Wizards on October 23.
