BookMyShow has illustrated its growing influence in the Indian entertainment industry after it announced that it is to take its Disney production of Aladdin to capital city New Delhi.
The company welcomed more than 30,000 people to its Broadway-style musical in Mumbai. Now the show, which is sponsored by PayPal and Vodafone, is ready to go on the road after a successful run.
As players such as Paytm, Flipkart and Amazon have pushed their way into the ticketing market in India, BookMyShow has began exploring different segments.
“Disney’s Aladdin is an incredible spectacle and a result of months of hard work. After a fantastic opening season in Mumbai, we are delighted to bring our first theatrical production to Delhi. It is an extravagant visual feast, filled with music, joy, and loads of theatrical magic and cannot be missed,” said Ashish Hemrajani, founder and chief executive of BookMyShow.
Following the success of Aladdin, the event and entertainment ticketing platform is to continue producing Broadway-style live musical stage shows in India.
BookMyShow is the producer of the stage show, and has undertaken tasks like sets, lights, costumes, special effects, cast, crew, and execution among others of the musical, besides listing its tickets on its platform.
“Disney’s Aladdin has universal appeal and continues to inspire audiences of all ages. At Disney, we are always looking for opportunities to bring these great stories to life for our Indian fans. BookMyShow has produced a world-class Disney musical that delivers an international quality experience with the quintessential Indian flavour,” Vikrant Pawar, head live entertainment and local content studio, Disney India.
